In 1833 Robert Lyon and John Wilson faced each other in a duel over the honour of Elizabeth Hughes. She attended Perth's school for young ladies, was a teacher and was also employed as a governess to the Boulton children who lived in the stately brick house on the corner of Harvey and Drummmond Street known as "The Summit". The duel culminated in the death of Lyon and Miss Hughes' eventual marriage to John Wilson. Cast by the shadows of lilacs in spring sunlight, the profile of a beautiful young lady deep in thought appears on the sunlit wall beside the steps.
