Records reveal this charming home was built in 1831 by William Rutherford and was rented to Rev. Thomas Clarke Wilson who was the first Pastor of St. Andrew's Church. One of the construction stipulations was that the house be 'grand in nature as it was for the son of the Moderator of the Church of Scotland'. Grand in nature and charming it is indeed. Some suggest houses have an aire about them, a spirit or "feeling in the air", and if that is so it seems this house has a happy and peaceful spirit, as visitors regularly comment on the pleasant feeling they experience. (We knew we had the title for a series of paintings of some of Perth's heritage buildings when we approached 168 Gore Street East.)
